Things to Do

California Wine Country attracts sophisticated travelers from around the world and Yountville and the surrounding Napa Valley area is rich in things to do.  Napa Valley may be synonymous with fine wine, but savvy travelers know that it is a Mecca for fine dining and offers up a multitude of outdoor activities.

Come for the Napa Valley Wine Auction--the world's largest charity wine event--held in early June each year in nearby St Helena.  Festivities include Barrel tasting and the Barrel Lot Auction, events with star chefs, music and entertainment, the Vintners’ Gala Black-Tie Dinner Dance, and the "Pride of Napa Valley" Feast and Wine Auction.

Go for an early morning hot air balloon ride.  Spend the afternoon on the Napa Valley Wine Train sampling wines from various vineyards.  Make a reservation for a memorable dinner at any of the many fine restaurants within walking distance of Yountville Escape, or a short drive away, in other parts of the valley.

Treat yourself to a day at the spa and enjoy a massage, a mud bath or a mineral soak.  Enjoy a stroll through Yountville's historic Vintage 1870 specialty shops and around the town, visit art galleries, antique shops and boutiques.

Enjoy the delightful California sun as you paddle a kayak or a canoe alongside the vineyards on the lazy, meandering Napa and Russian Rivers.

Go for a bike ride and explore the quiet country lanes and off-the-beaten-path wineries. Pick up a gourmet picnic lunch at the Oakville Grocery Store in nearby Oakville, then set out your picnic under a shady tree and drink in the spectacular view along with a bottle of fine wine.  Whether you're searching for world-class gourmet dining or a picnic with a world class view, Napa Valley has it all.

Outdoor dining in style!

Paddle your way through the wine country along the beautiful Napa River.  Along the river you might observe Great Blue Herons, Osprey, Egrets, Kingfishers, River Otters, turtles and more. It is a constantly changing and evolving scene as you paddle your way up through the vineyards in the valley or down to the saltwater marshes bird preserve.  A Paddle & Putt tour will provide a fun filled half day in a kayak or canoe, then a leisurely lunch and a tee off for 9 holes of golf.  Maybe the Paddle & Pamper tour would be more to your liking.

Join a Pedal 'N Paddle tour where you will bike down quiet, peaceful, virtually traffic free country roads past beautiful wineries.  Stop for a gourmet picnic lunch, then head for the Russian River where you will climb into canoes or kayaks for a leisurely paddle along this picturesque, slow moving river as it winds its way through the vineyards, filled with birds and wildlife. The Russian River is warm and clear and is filled with opportunities to pull over at numerous beaches and go for a swim

Sample the wines of Napa Valley. Savor pleasures-of-the-glass with local winemakers and cellar masters, or tour the wine caves where fine vintages begin.

Yountville offers a popular shopping area for visitors and a strolling adventure down Washington Street awaits. Yountville is known for its variety of upscale retail stores, boutiques, antique shops, art galleries, artists' working studios, and much more.

Vintage 1870, filled with many specialty shops, was once a winery. Today at the historic 130 year old Groezinger Wine Estate, there are three massive stone buildings  that house a honeycomb of shops and restaurants that make up Vintage 1870. This shopping venue has everything for the home, garden and bath, with 36 specialty shops and galleries. It's a great place to walk and shop, taste wine and dine.

Yountville has many other fine shops and restaurants outside the Vintage 1870 Complex,  with shops along Washington Street including Beard Plaza--another small, unique shopping area.  Washington Square offers fine restaurants, art galleries and specialty shops and the length of Washington Street is laden with treasures waiting to be found.  Nearby is the Whistle Stop Centre, the old Yountville train depot now housing an Inn, a gallery, offices and a fitness centre.

Yountville is a walking town filled with excellent restaurants, restaurants, and more restaurants!  From French, Italian and Pacific Rim, to California cuisine and continental, to down-home "comfort" food--an international array of fine dining and ambiance are yours to discover in Yountville.

Soar peacefully in a colorful hot air balloon over picture-book valleys, rolling foothills and vine covered slopes.  As the balloon glides silently above the soft morning mist, drifting almost soundlessly over the hills and vineyards which virtually carpet the the valley floor below, greet the sunrise as you gently dance with the winds and enjoy the majestic beauty above the Napa Valley.
