The Napa
Valley itself is approximately 26 miles long and spans six cities.
From the gateway of the Valley, Napa begins the journey and heading
north, there is Yountville, Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena and Calistoga. About
fifty miles to the south is the San Francisco Bay Area.
About three hours
northeast of Napa is Lake Tahoe, Nevada, a favorite getaway for the local people
in Northern California.

About an hour north of San Francisco, Yountville is
about 60 miles west of
Sacramento, nestled between Napa and St. Helena on Highway 29 near
Lake Berryessa and the San
Francisco Bay.
Although just a
mile in length, the Town of Yountville offers a selection of diverse and
breathtaking surrounds. Spectacular panoramic vineyards, manicured gardens and American country porches are
Yountville’s backdrop for the perfect Napa Valley escape.
Yountville may look like the tiny burg that
time forgot, and in this poky town with its front-porch charm, the
neighbors talk to each other over fences and keep their porches freshly
painted because that's where they sit on a summer's eve. Yountville
is a walking town, rich with history and character rooted in a century
past and you can walk everywhere.

Yountville has retained its rural charm
and residential character while encouraging the commercial centers to
retain the charm and taste that has become synonymous with Yountville.
Today’s visitor will find a variety of gourmet restaurants, exquisite
retail shops, antiques and art galleries, and world-class wine tasting
opportunities.

In Yountville, the seasons come to life
with festivals, celebrations and events. In March, Yountville celebrates the
Napa Valley Mustard
Festival with "A Taste of Yountville". This Yountville showcase
features traditional samplings of gourmet restaurant fare, olive oil,
vinegar and mustard as well as fine wine and micro-brew tastings. A
cornucopia of lifestyle demonstrations by retailers and innkeepers,
including fashions shows, tours, furniture restoration demonstrations
and celebrity chef mini-workshops awaits visitors.
In early June, the valley celebrates the
Napa Valley Wine Auction in nearby St Helena. One of the world's
largest charity wine events, this
prestigious event has raised more that $53 million
for local Napa County charities since 1981.
Fall is harvest and crush time in the
Napa Valley which means time for the Wine and Crafts Fair. Vendors from
all over California vie to have a booth in downtown Napa during this
street festival. It's a great place to do holiday shopping, and there's
the added attraction of wine tasting by Napa Valley's premier wineries
A walking tour of historic downtown Napa will take you where you can enjoy the quaint shops of
Old Town Napa and town
center
or you can take the Napa
Downtown Trolley which will take you to the new
Wine Country Outlet Mall.
The Trolley runs every 20 to 30 minutes, and it's free!
Christmas comes to sparkling life the day after Thanksgiving
with the kick-off of Yountville’s "Festival of Lights," heralding a
joyous month-long celebration of holiday events and entertainment
through New Year’s Eve. Strolling musicians, jugglers, face painters and
artists join Yountville’s restaurants and wineries along Washington
Street. Vendors offer sumptuous samplings, holiday treats and the wine
that makes the Napa Valley famous. That evening join Santa as the entire
town is set aglow with thousands of sparkling white lights.
The holidays are also a very special time in
neighbouring downtown Napa. The
Candlelight Home Tour offers the chance to see the interiors of some of Napa's
most beautiful Victorian homes.
Located at the northern end
of the Valley,
Calistoga
is popular for its natural hot springs and spas.
Calistoga is also home to The Old Faithful Geyser of
California. The Geyser is one of only three "Old
Faithfuls" in the world, designated as such because of its constant
and predictable eruptions. The Geyser is an all-natural phenomenon
which tosses a scalding curtain of water anywhere from 60 to upwards of 100 feet
into the air. This spectacle is a true rarity, and
there’s no better place to see it than in Calistoga. Currently, Old
Faithful is erupting approximately every 30
minutes, ensuring a minimal waiting period for an exciting and
educational experience.

Petrified Forest,
near Calistoga, is a beautiful venue that takes visitors back 3
million years to follow the trail left by petrified redwood trees. The
park also offers a perfect setting for adventure sports like hiking and
biking.
The Napa Valley is
now host to millions of visitors each year, coming to experience not only the
wineries, but the beauty and richness of the land. Locals and visitors alike
can find quiet rest and relaxation--or a myriad of activity--all in a near
perfect climate. Yountville, the Heart of the Napa Valley has it all.
